I think it is safe to say 2020 was quite a unique year. While I’m writing this post, we have a second lockdown in the Netherlands to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. So, Christmas was not what it should be. I’m really blessed that I don’t have any victims of the virus within my family and friends. Although I have lost several people for other reasons, I’m really happy that my closest family and friends are still around me. Something that cannot be taken for granted in our situation. Luckily, we also had some positive news this year. In October this year, we were blessed to welcome our son and brother Daan. So, 2020 was quite a rollercoaster!
I always say that work should be fun. In life we have enough unpleasant things and, in my opinion, work shouldn’t be one of those. Although I was really happy to work at MaxServ, I had something on my wishlist. Something I always wanted to do. Working as much as possible on TYPO3 core was the one thing I really would love to do. At MaxServ I got the opportunity to work on core but as we were in the lucky position of having a lot of projects, those projects got priority most of the time. And there is nothing wrong with that, but I was aiming for a more steady possibility to contribute to TYPO3.
To make that happen, I decided to leave MaxServ. From January 1st, I will start as a freelance TYPO3 developer. The main goal? Spend as much time as possible on TYPO3 core contributions. Of course, I have to take care of my family as well. That is why I will work with sponsors. When an agency sponsors me, I will give them feedback and support on TYPO3 related questions in return. Besides having sponsors, I will also be available as a freelance TYPO3 developer. And of course, I will give back to the community with that kind of work as well. For every 10 hours I get hired, I will donate 1 hour of my personal time to TYPO3 core development or other open source projects. This way I want to achieve that 2021 will be the year of way more contributions as I ever did before. As said, I am looking for sponsors so if you want to sponsor me and get valuable feedback in return, please check my page about TYPO3 core development. I created some packages but everything can be discussed, so if it is not something you like, please contact me and we will find a way! And if you need development power, check out my freelance TYPO3 development page. I’m sure I can help you with some development power! In the end, this way I can decide how much time I can work on TYPO3 core myself.
I want to thank MaxServ for the amazing time. We did really nice projects and I’m proud I was part of the MaxServ family. I think I was able to help MaxServ forming an open source strategy and I hope they can benefit from that for a long time!
I wish you all a happy and healthy 2021!
